The autumn startupslive season was rounded off in style at London’s America Square Conference Centre. Instant Offices founder Rob Hamilton explained how he built the largest internet gateway to flexible offices in the world, and talked about managing growing pains as the firm grew to hit £30m turnover in 2009. Keynote speaker Emma Wimhurst then entertained the 150-strong audience with her tale of how she built and sold Diva Cosmetics, which became the leading provider of in-house labelled cosmetics for the majority of high street chains including Monsoon/Accessorize, River Island, Claire's Accessories and George @ Asda.

The autumn season of startupslive kicked off in Reading where delegates heard how SportStars founder James Taylor refused to take no for an answer when pitching his kids’ coaching venture to local headteachers. He also revealed why making the shift from manager to leader is such a crucial element of successfully growing your business. Keynote speaker Caroline Kinsey told the story of how she progressed from a one-man band operation to running Cirkle, one of the most successful PR companies in the country. She spoke of the importance of keeping the focus on your customers’ ideals and why it’s vital to occasionally take a break from your business so you come back refreshed and buzzing with ideas.

startupslive returned to Leeds in October where delegates heard the start-up stories of Warren Bramley who started four23 and serial entrepreneur Trevor Brocklebank who currently runs Home Instead Senior Care. Warren told delegates why his industry experience was crucial in setting up his creative agency, and why if he hadn’t worked in that particular sector he probably would have set up a business in a completely different field. Trevor then wowed delegates with the inspirational story of how he set up and sold two incredibly successful IT businesses before moving into the care sector. He explained why passion and self-belief was such an important part of his success, and outlined his plans to change the entire care industry landscape.

startupslive hosted it’s first event in Cambridge where delegates heard the start-up stories of Ed Mauleverer, who started Ed’s Garden Maintenance and local boys, Warren Bennett and David Hathiramani, the founders of a suitthatfits.com. Ed told delegates how he started with the end in mind and why he chose to grow his business through franchising. Warren & David entertained the audience with an amusing double act explaining how two school friends with a passion for suits set up the first online tailors. Their story of how they started their business, to guerilla marketing tactics, winning awards and how they are helping to a Nepalese village to support itself truly inspired the audience.
