The audience was treated to an unusual but inspirational start-up story from Martin Edmondson, as he recounted how he led Graduates Yorkshire from a university-funded graduate recruitment initiative to a self-sufficient social enterprise. He told how the contacts he’s built up have played a crucial part in his success, offering clients unrivalled access to the region’s most talented graduates. Up next was Jamie Cartwright, founder of the fast-growing chain of ladies-only circuit gyms Ladyzone, who captivated the audience with his thoughts on what it takes to be an entrepreneur. | startupslive Reading saw two successful entrepreneurs with contrasting styles entertaining over 100 fledgling entrepreneurs and business owners. Quietly spoken local entrepreneur Paul Lindley explained how he’s propelled Ella’s Kitchen from concept to supermarket shelf, negotiating the challenges of retail, food manufacturing and the FMCG industry to deliver a fast growth firm with a projected turnover of £10m. Keynote speaker Jonathan Jay followed with an exuberant performance worthy of a marketing guru who turned a mountain of debt into a six figure personal fortune. It might have been flamboyantly delivered, but his simple and direct advice on getting the core principles of a company right at start-up stage was welcomed as potentially invaluable advice by the audience. |
