Since graduating from De Montfort University, Leicester, in 1994 with a BA Hons Degree in Marketing and Psychology, award-winning entrepreneur Stephen Clarke started Truancy Call Ltd in 2000 and has led the company to continued growth and success.
Inspired by an article about two missing children, Stephen spotted a market niche for technology to safeguard children’s welfare through first-day contact with parents of absentees. The idea for the company’s first product, Truancy Call, became a reality when it employed software developers to produce the system; it was then tested on several schools to ascertain its viability before being developed into the full system that is in the marketplace today.
Stephen believes that regular communication between home and school is important to students’ learning and welfare and can be made easier through the use of modern technologies such as automatic notification systems.
Since its inception, the Birmingham-based business has gone from strength to strength, growing its customer base and developing new products to meet the needs of schools and local authorities.
Truancy Call Ltd’s growth and success over the last eight years has earned it numerous accolades, giving it well-deserved recognition for its innovative use of technology. Recent award-wins include the 2009 Fast Growth Business Award for Best Use of Technology and the 2007 BT Essence of the Entrepreneur Award
